Under 11s
28 April 2013
Eccles 5 Tarleton 26 (Game 1)
Sedgley Park 21 Tarleton 12 (Game 2)

The under 11's travelled to Sedgley Park on a bright but chilly Sunday morning for a triangular match with Eccles. It was decided that Sedgley and Eccles play first whilst Tarleton watched from the side lines.

Game 1

Sedgley's coach was the referee and Brandon was chosen as captain.

Eccles won the toss and decided to kick the match off with a low kick which fell straight to Jack. A quick pass to Owen where Owen found himself at the bottom of many rucks, presented the ball but Eccles took hold. Not for long as Jake won the ball, ended up in the middle of a maul with Owen, Issac and Jack supporting. Jack kicked up field, where Eddie was flying down the wing with Brandon . Eccles won back the ball and for that minute, Tarleton took their eye of the ball and Eccles flew up field. A touch by Eddie and then Iwan couldn't stop the Eccles player and he scored the try. Unfortunately they missed the conversion.

A restart where Joe kicked the ball high and long. Eccles won the ball but not for long as Brandon won it back, passed to Harry who used his strength to push forwards. Some lovely teamwork between Jake, Jack, Issac and Marcus saw Jack score his first try of the match and Brandon scored the conversion.

Iwan came off and Conal came on and Eccles kicked up field. Brandon won the ball and passed to Owen. Ref saw a knock on and a scrum was formed. Joe won the ball and kicked up field and it went out of play. Line out to Eccles which touched Jack's hand who passed to Paul. A ruck saw Paul, Owen and Joe right in the middle of it but Issac got the ball and passed to Brandon. Another ruck formed where Paul was at the bottom with Jake, Issac and Harry supporting. Harry broke free close to Tarleton's try line and looked like he'd scored a try but it was disallowed to an alleged handing off. A scrum formed where Sam won the ball, saw Brandon free on his left, he ran sideways and then charged forwards to score Tarleton's second try of the game and a fantastic conversion by Sam.

Eccles restarted the game and quicked straight up field, out of play. A line out to Tarleton thrown by Issac saw Harry touch it and it dropped to Eddie. He got tackled but Owen, Issac and Jake were driving over on him. Eccles won the ball but Conal brought him down and Joe won the ball. A kick up field saw Sam, Jack and Eddie on it. Another set of great teamwork saw Jack, Issac and Paul involved who then scored Tarleton's third try and conversion.

An Eccles drop kick saw it bobble up field into Owen's path. A quick pass to Jack, then Sam and Brandon saw the ball dropped and a penalty to Tarleton. A scrum was formed, which Jack won, saw Harry free who pushed forwards and scored Tarleton's fourth try with a hard kick for the conversion but it just missed the post.

Game 2

Sedgley Park won the toss, kicked up field and fell to Paul who returned the kick. It fell to Jack. Owen, Issac and Jake were driving over and the ball fell to Sam. The ref called for a penalty to Tarleton and a scrum formed; Sam retrieved the ball and passed to Joe; Joe got tackled and fell to the ground as Sedgley ran towards the try line and scored the first try of the game followed by a conversion.

Tarleton restarted the game and Joe gave a cracking kick and it shot towards the left hand side of the pitch, a Sedgley touch but Brandon won the ball, passed it to Jack, Conal and Jck again. The ball was dropped but ref should for a knock on so a penalty to Tarleton . A scrum was formed which Sam won and a great move to Jack then Harry saw Tarleton push forward with the help of the strength from Owen, Jake and Harry. The ball was moving up and down the pitch for the next five minutes or so; Tarleton were holding their own. Someone Sedgley broke free and scored their second try with a quick conversion.

Joe kicked off and the ball went long and out of play. A line out to Sedgley saw Owen touch the ball but the ref then blew for half time.

The second half restarted with Sam taking the drop kick; it fell to Sedgley but a maul was formed with Issac, Jake and of course Owen in the thick of things. Sedgley won the ball but Jack wasn't having that, fought for the ball, quick pass to Harry the Owen to Jack again. Jack presented to Jake and Jake drove forward completely surrounded by Sedgley, scored Tarleton's and his own first try of the season. Well done Jake; excellent driving over. A cracking conversion was taken by Sam.

A shocked Sedgley saw them restart the game where their drop kick went straight out of play. A scrum was formed and Jack won the ball and passed to Harry then Owen, Conal, Declan and Brandon all played a part. Somehow, Jack again won the ball and saw Paul to his left, who then scored Tarleton's second try and Paul's second try of the day. Unfortunately the conversion was missed.

A restart saw Sedgley's ball fall straight to Joe. A bad tackle on Joe saw a penalty given to Tarleton. The scrum was formed and Sedgley won it and somehow managed to score their third try followed by a conversion. The remainder of the game saw Tarleton working really hard to get the next try and stop Sedgley scoring any more. However the score remained as it was when the ref blew for full time.

Man of the Match awarded to Brandon.

Squad: Jake (1) (1 try), Issac (2), Conal (3), Owen (4), Declan (5), Marcus (7), Brandon (8) (Captain) (1 try and 1 conversion), Jack (11) (1 try and 1 conversion), Harry (12) (1 try), Sam (13) (2 conversions), Paul (2 tries, 1 conversion), Iwan and Eddie

21 April 2013
Tarleton 24 Widnes 21

Today's home game had changed about three times in the coming week as to whom we would be playing!! Anyway, Widnes turned up at Carr Lane who parents will remember we played at the beginning of the season. The pitches were firm and the weather was dry to start with a blustery wind.

Scrum half today was Sam who did a good job in the position last week and due to Jake out with injury, Declan was in the scrum with Owen as props and Isaac as hooker. Marcus and Ryan were the second row and Brandon captain. Nik was the referee.

Widnes won the toss and decided to start the game. A drop kick which went low and straight into Jack's arms who got brought down quickly but presented the ball to Owen who passed to Brandon. Brandon kicked the ball but it went high rather than long where Widnes caught the ball and although Conal put a tackle in against Widnes number 3 (who was huge), Widnes managed to score their first try quickly followed by a conversion. Joe restarted the game and put to practice what he had learnt in training about communicating what his actions would be, kicked the ball as stated to the right of the pitch where Eddie was flying along the wing, distracted Widnes who dropped the ball and Jack was there who passed to Brandon then Owen to Conal to Harry back to Jack then Eddie. Poor Eddie took a bad high tackle where thankfully the ref was nearby to see it. A few minutes stopped to make sure Eddie was ok and he got up to applauses from the Tarleton's parents. The ref gave a penalty to Tarleton who took a line out with Isaac throwing. Isaac did that number thing (which doesn't make sense to anyone other than the under 11's team) and Harry touched the ball. The ref blew again for a foul on Harry and a scrum was formed which Jack won. Jack saw a space and somehow with half Widnes attached to him, he scored Tarleton's first try in the top right hand corner of the pitch. Brandon scored the conversion.

The second try for Tarleton came within minutes of the first, where Widnes took a weak kick, it fell to Joe who kicked up field with Conal, Ryan and Marcus behind it. What seemed to be a pile on with a few punches flying around, Owen came out of the ruck and scored Tarleton's second try and Sam scored Tarleton's second conversion.

A quick start by Widnes where they chased the ball up field but some excellent teamwork here by Tarleton which everyone was involved in saw passing, communicating and supporting their team mates. Owen was in every ruck and maul closely supported by Isaac, Ryan, Marcus and Conal. Eddie was flying down the wing and Sam, Jack, Harry and Joe seemed to be in the thick of things most of the time. However, following a great move between Jack, Owen and Declan they saw Harry unmarked, passed the ball and with all his strength, he pushed forward to score Tarleton's third try but unfortuntely Jack missed the conversion this time. A quick restart sa the ref blow to retake the kick. The ball went low and to the right where Eddie chased it out of play. A lineout formed which Isaac took but Jack caught the ball, passed to Owen who then scored his second try and Tarleton's fourth. Unfortunately the conversion was missed by Marcus. Half time.

The second half was very much like the first. However there were some dirty tactics by Widnes with high tackles, punches and shoves. The ref stopped the game three times to chat to the coaches. Tarleton were getting increasingly frustrated with it. Declan had a try disallowed but Widnes scored two more tries and conversions. Eventually when the ref blew for full time there was a sigh of relief from parents as well as the Under 11's themselves!!

All players had a great game today but Man of the Match went to Owen. Well done Owen!!

Squad: Isaac (2), Declan (3), Sam (4)(1 conversion) (5) Marcus, Owen (8) (2 tries), Brandon (11) (1 conversion), Harry (12) (1 try), Ryan (13), Joe (14), Conal (15), Eddie and Jack (1 try and 1 conversion)

7 April 2013
Tarleton 42 Blackburn 42

Weather conditions today were bright and sunny with a chilly wind. Ground conditions were firm!

The Under 11's entertained Blackburn who we played in the Barclays Cup back in February where the score was a draw, so Stu and Nik were hoping to expand on this today.

Blackburn turned up with 9 players so Brandon volunteered himself to play for Blackburn so that there were 10 players per team.

Jack was captain and playing as scrum half, his best position; whilst the scrum would be Issac as hooker, Harry and Declan as props , Marcus and Paul in the second row. No Owen due to illness and no Jake due to holidays, so a complete change than normal. Joe started as sub and Nik was referee.

The boys were put through their paces in training pre-match by Stu and Nik who concentrated on the boys being more vocal so that everybody knew who was going where; line out practice (which still confuses me) and reaction techniques.

Tarleton won the toss and a drop kick by Paul which went to the right hand side of the pitch, flew up field; Eddie closely followed by Iwan, flew up on the wing chasing the ball, forcing it out of play. Blackburn ball. A line out was formed which Declan caught, quick pass to Conal who got brought down but presented the ball to Harry who broke free on the left hand side of the pitch, found space, ran forward and scored Tarleton's first try (1 try) and Jack scored the conversion. A quick restart by Blackburn flying up the right of the pitch saw Harry, Jack and Sam in the thick of things but the ref blew and a penalty was awarded to Tarleton. Tarleton choose a line out which Issac threw, Declan got his hand to it and belted it down which fell to Iwan; Iwan got brought down but managed to present the ball to Marcus who quickly passed to Paul; Paul got tackled and the ball went out of play. A scrum was formed which Blackburn won and their number 10 shot up field only to be brought down by Sam who passed to Conal. Conal presented the ball to Issac who got tangled in with Blackburn players, Harry and Jack in the middle of it all. However unfortunately Blackburn's number 10 broke free and scored their first try much to the disgust of Marcus who got brought off (as he wasn't happy) and saw Joe go on. Blackburn scored the conversion.

Position change for Sam who now took Marcus' place in second row. A drop kick from the centre which Blackburn won but a tackle by Joe saw him win the ball; a ruck formed and Blackburn won the ball again. Iwan was on the case though and won the ball back, passed to Jack then Joe who passed to Harry. It took most of Blackburn's squad to bring Harry down but they did and Harry presented the ball to Jack who passed to Eddie who flew up the left hand side of the pitch and passed to Paul. Some lovely passing between Paul, Declan and Jack just near to Tarleton's try line but Tarleton lost the ball and Blackburn's player s broke through and scored their second try; followed by a conversion.

Joe kicked off the game and the ball was low and shot to the right of the pitch where again Eddie was flying up the wing but took a knock and presented the ball to Conal who in turn passed to Harry who pushed through Blackburn's defence, quick pass to Joe but Joe got took out. Penalty to Tarleton. A scrum was formed and Paul won the ball, saw an opening and scored Tarleton's second try quickly followed by a conversion (2 try). Due to Joe's injury, he came off and Marcus went back on.

Blackburn kicked off the game, the ball was low and Marcus caught it and passed it to Sam then Conal. Somehow Blackburn managed to win the ball again and ran through the middle of the pitch and scored their third try followed by another conversion.

A kick off by Paul saw the ball fly through the centre and then out of play. A scrum was formed, Jack won the ball and past to Isaac who was on his left hand side, he saw Declan free, quick pass to Conal and then Harry who saw Paul free in the far right had corner who ran to Tarleton's try line but just dropped the ball before he could touch down. However the build up saw some great teamwork and brilliant play. Blackburn chose to scrum down near Tarleton's try line. Jack won the ball saw Harry free and Harry scored Tarleton's third try but his second followed by a cracking conversion by Jack (Jack' second). (3 try).

Blackburn kicked off again and the ball went straight up in the air into Sam's arms, he quickly passed to Iwan then Jack to Paul to Marcus. Marcus got brought down again near to Tarleton's try line and a tussle seem to be going on which saw Declan and Conal driving over. Jack got hold of the ball and then the ref blew for half time.

A team talk by Stu in half time saw the boys all huggled together and Iwan was sub as Joe dropped into Sam's position and Sam into Iwan's. Blackburn kicked off which was short but Tarleton chased the ball and Declan eventually won it and ran three quarters up the pitch; he eventually got brought down and the ball went out of play. A scrum was formed which Joe won but he got tackled and Blackburn started running up the pitch but Sam was there and won back the ball. The ref below for a penalty to Blackburn and they did a quick touch kick but the ball went out of play. A line out formed which Declan got his fingers to again but Blackburn's number 22 caught it and second Blackburn's forth try followed by a quick conversion.

Paul restarted the game where the ball fell into Blackburn's hands again. Eddie flew up the wing but took a bad tackle and was subbed so Iwan went back on and took his place. A scrum was formed which Joe won passed to Jack who seemed to be surrounded by all of Blackburn's players but Marcus saw his opening and basically picked up the ball and ran. Result as he scored Tarleton's fourth try and Paul scored the conversion (Paul's second) (4 try). Even stevens!!

Blackburn restart saw the ball low and soft which gave them chance to run forward. From nowhere their number 10 (who had been a pain most of the game) was unmarked and ran to his try line scored their fifth try and conversion. A drop kick by Tarleton saw the ball low but was caught by Blackburn quickly. A bit of heave ho going on but somehow, Blackburn scored their sixth try and conversion.

Normally the lads heads would have been down at this stage but oh no, with encouragement from Stu and of course the parents, Tarleton seemed to be fired up!! Conal came off and Eddie went back on. Paul took the drop kick which saw the ball go out of play. A scrum was formed which Jack won and passed to Sam. The ball seemed to getting kicked up and down the field at this stage but with Stu shouting from the line to catch the ball, Paul passed to Harry and Harry crashed through the Blackburn defence to score his third try of the game but Tarleton's fifth followed by another conversion by Jack (Jack's third). The lads, parents, Stu and secretly Nik were all ecstatic and with minutes left of the game Marcus passed to Sam who passed to Paul then Eddie, a maul formed which saw Isaac in the thick of it but Harry saw his opening and Jack free on his right, past to Jack and Jack scored his first try but Tarleton's sixth, quickly followed by another conversion (Jack's forth) and the ref blew for time!!!

A fantastic game of rugby played today which showed great teamwork, skill, determination and putting Stu and Nik's training sessions into practice. As the boys all shook hands and cheered each other, a man of the match had to be decided. It was given to Paul in the end but every single man on the pitch played a part in the game. Well done lads and congratulations to Paul. Well done to Brandon also for volunteering himself to play for Blackburn.

Squad: Edward, Iwan, Paul (1 try and 2 conversions), Jack (Captain) (1 try and 4 conversions), Marcus (1 try), Isaac, Joe, Conal, Sam, Declan and Harry (3 tries) (and Brandon).

17 February 2013
Tarleton 28 Ormskirk 14 (Game 1)
Tarleton 21 Blackburn 21 (Game 2)

On a sunny and fairly warm Sunday, the U11's travelled up to Lancaster’s Vale of Lune RUFC to play in Day 2 of the Barclays Cup against Ormskirk and Blackburn. First game was to be against Ormskirk who battered us at home last week. Ormskirk were expecting the same type of game as last week ........ A welcome back to Brandon who had been out for the last two games through injury.

Game 1

Harry was choosen as captain, won the toss with Tarleton to kick first. The referee for this game was Blackburn's coach. Stu changed the formation and I have to say there were two perfect straight lines.

Brandon took the drop kick which fell straight to Ormskirk who ran forward. There was a small amount of defensive play but Ormskirk broke free and scored their first try, quickly followed by a conversion from their number 10. Tarleton's heads went down and Stu gave the lads a talking to whilst the conversion was being taken. A Brandon drop kick which was low and bobbled along the pitch, gave Tarleton's forwards a chance to run up field and pick up the ball. Sam picked it up and threw to Jack who fell to the ground (ball still in arms) whilst the forwards drove over Jack presented the ball to Paul. Paul got pushed, drop the ball but this went out of play having touched an Ormskirk player. Tarleton throw taken by Issac which fell to Owen who ran towards the try line. Owen was tackled, fell to the ground but kept hold of the ball. It looked like a 'pile on' as Owen presented to Jake moved closer to the try line but Ormskirk's defense stopped him moving forwards. Owen unmarked and to the right of the ruck saw the ball free, picked it up and ran to score Tarleton's first try quickly followed by a great conversion by Brandon. Result!! (You should have seen Ormskirk's coaches face!!) Ormskirk drop kick which fell straight to Jake who presented the ball to Jack saw his chance scored Tarleton's second try!!! The lads were ecastic especially as Brandon took his second conversion . Ormskirk took the drop kick from the centre, where it fell to Tarleton, caught by Harry with Issac, Owen and Marcus all determined that they weren't getting the ball back. Here saw Tarleton working so well together with Iwan, Sam, Edward, Paul and Jack making a nuisance of themselves. Half time whistle blew, with beaming faces from not just the players but parents and Stu and Nik as well. A great first half.

Second half began with Brandon taking a low drop kick which fell to Ormskirk's number 10. Not for long however, as Joe tackled him, got the ball and passed to Edward. The referee gave a penalty to Tarleton after Ormskirk fouled him and a scrum was formed. Jack won the ball saw Paul free on the right, he found a way through Ormskirk's defense and scored Tarleton's third try. Brandon scored his third conversion. The lads were on a high!!! Ormskirk drop kick which was high and fell to the right of the pitch and out of play; a line out was formed and taken by Issac which touched Paul but fell to Harry, saw his opening and scored Tarleton's fourth try, quickly followed by Brandon's fourth conversion!! Ormskirk took the drop kick again which bobbled but caught by their number 13 as they pushed forward. A few pushes unseen by the referee occured but Tarleton held their own. It didn't help matters as Ormskirk coach was screaming down the side of the pitch and a gentle remainder from Tarleton's parents as to the score and with less than a minute to go, saw Ormskirk score their second try and conversion. Full time. What an amazing game and great play by all the lads. One of Ormskirk's coaches came to congratulate us on they way our lads played today especially after last week's performance against them. Result!!!

Game 2

With Harry as captain and the formation as with Ormskirk's game, the lads were eager to play again. Unfortunately we had Ormskirk's coach who refereed this match ..........

Tarleton kicked off the match where the ball fell low and to Blackburn's number 10 however Joe put a tackle in, the ball dropped and fell to Eddie. The ref blew and a penalty was given to Blackburn; a scrum formed which Jack won, passed the ball to Sam who was free on the left of the pitch, ran forward and scored Tarleton's first try of the game quickly followed by a great conversion by Brandon. Blackburn kicked off the game, the ball fell to Jack and the ref blew for a knock on. Ormskirk quickly took the kick and it fell to Blackburn's number 12 who ran half way up the pitch until a tackle by Harry with Owen supporting drove the ball forward to Tarleton's half, Blackburn's pass bobbled past Sam who pick the ball up and pass to Paul. A tackle on Paul saw him fall to the ground where a ruck was formed, the ref shouted for the ball to be used quickly and then blew for a penalty to Blackburn. A scrum was formed which Brandon picked up, saw Marcus on the right of him and pass the ball. Marcus was free on the right and got to Tarleton's try but was taken out by Blackburn and a line out, right on Tarleton's try line was formed. Issac threw where Owen touched the ball with his fingers and it fell to Iwan who passed to Jake. Blackburn intercepted and ran half way up the pitch to their half but with Eddie hot on their tails, the ball went out of play. A line out formed which Marcus took and it hit Owen who knocked it to Joe. The ref blew for a penalty and a scrum was formed which Blackburn won and scored their first try quickly followed by a conversion. Tarleton kick off taken by Brandon saw the ball fall to Blackburn but Iwan put a great tackle in, the ball fell to Brandon who saw his opening and scored the second try of the game quickly followed by a conversion! Blackburn drop kick which saw a cracking ball fly up field, followed by the Blackburn forwards and from somewhere Blackburn's number 28 got the ball and scored Blackburn's second try quickly followed by a conversion by their number 2. Half time.

Stu and Nik huggled the lads together to share a few tactics and congratulate them on a great game so far for their half time team talk. The second half started with a Brandon drop kick halfway up field which touched a Blackburn player and went out of play. Line out formed, thrown by Marcus, touched Brandon and Blackburn got the ball, A great tackle by Harry with Owen supporting should Blackburn loosed the ball but it went out of play. Line out formed taken by Jack saw the ball find Sam who saw Brandon unmarked. Brandon did what he does best and ran sideways and then forwards after shouts from Stu, Nik and Tarleton parents and players to score his second try of the game, Tarleton's third and his seventh conversion of the day!! This game saw a lot of handing off, punches and unseen kicks by Blackburn but Ormskirk coach was refereeing the match! Say no more ......... Blackburn kicked off again which saw the ball fall low, some great defensive play here by Tarleton but towards the last 30 seconds of the game and with a couple of missed opportunites for Tarleton, Blackburn scored their third try quickly followed by a third conversion. Full time. Two excellant games played today with determination, great team work and drive which saw Stu and Nik estactic and with 12 happy Tarleton players faces. It was hard for a man of the match to be nominated today as every team member had some part to play in both games. However two Man of the Matches today went to Joe for his awesome tackling and Owen for his superb passing skills. Well done Joe and Owen.

Squad: Owen (1)(1 try), Jake (2), Sam (4)(1 try) , Iwan (5), Harry (7) (Captain)(1 try) , Marcus (8), Eddie (11), Jack (12)(1 try), Brandon (13)(2 tries and 7 conversions), Joe (14), Issac (15) and Paul (1 try)

3 February 2013
Tarleton 0 Sedgley Park 21 (Game 1)
Tarleton 5 Sedgley Park 29 (Game 2)

A blustery, chilly Sunday morning saw Tarleton welcome visitors Sedgley Park to Carr Lane for the Under 11's first game of the New Year and first home match since November!!

The Under 11's had a full squad turn up for training including new boys, Adam and Declan who were both keen to play their first match. Unfortunately Brandon was out of action today after suffering from an arm injury. However Stu and Nik prepared the squad with an intense training session in preparation for the game. Parents will remember that the first game of this season was at Sedgely where the score was 30-0.

Game 1

The team consisted of Ryan as hooker, Owen and Jake as props, Harry and Paul as locks, Joe as fly half, Jack as scrum half, Marcus and Conal as flankers, Edward, Sam and Paul as wingers. Subs to start with where Iwan, Declan, Adam and Alex. Nik was the referee.

Tarleton won the toss and a drop kick by Jack went flying up field. Tarleton pushed forward but Sedgley had the ball and broke free down the right hand side of the pitch and scored their first try in the first minute, quickly followed by a conversion. Joe kicked off again with the ball flying straight down the middle of the pitch caught by Sedgley but Harry was on it and the ball went out of play. Tarleton's ball. A scrum was formed and won by Jack who pushed forward with Harry in support; a great pass to Ryan who quickly passed to Joe. Joe was surrounded by Sedgley players but managed to kick the ball up field which Sam caught and threw to Owen who got brought down with the ball but presented to Jack; the ref deemed Jack off side, penalty to Sedgley. Sedgley chose to form a scrum and won the ball only to be stopped by Joe; advantage given to Tarleton after a foul on Joe who ran forward but the ball went out of play; Sedgley's ball. They chose to form a scrum; Jack won the ball and passed to Jake then Harry; Harry ran up field shaking off at least four Sedgley players near to Tarleton's try line where the ball was defended heavily by Sedgley. Great play and teamwork by Tarleton but we just couldn't get it past Sedgley's defence. The ball went out of play and Sedgley formed a scrum which they won and their number 17 ws quickly running down the left hand side of the pitch. However Conal put a tackle in and won the ball who passed to Owen; Owen surrounded again by Sedgley players presented beautifully to Jack who took a knock and the ball went out of play. Tarleton chose a line out which Harry knocked and it fell to Marcus who passed to Joe then to Jack. The ball went out of play again and Sedgley chose to form a scrum which they won; Paul tackled Sedgley's player, got the ball and passed to Sam who flew down the right hand side of the pitch but ended up with most of Sedgley's players on top of him!! The ref blew for half time. (Sam was shaken but luckily, ok!) Phew!

The second half saw Marcus and Ryan off to let Declan and Adam on. A drop kick from the centre by Joe, fell to Sedgley who lost the ball to Owen, who was all over him. Owen was brought down but presented to Adam, who got his first touch of the ball, unfortunately Adam was tackled and Sedgley won the ball back; Declan who was playing on the wing, tackled Sedgley's number 17 (who was proving to be a pain) but he managed to keep hold of the ball and break fee to score their second try of the game, followed by another conversion. Jack took the drop kick from the centre and it fell straight into Sedgley's forwards; pressure from Tarleton's forwards, dropped the ball which Joe scooped up. A high tackle on Joe gave Tarleton a penalty and they formed a scrum. Sedgley won the scrum but Paul ripped the ball out from them and passed to Harry; Harry ran up field but Sedgley's won back the ball and although Declan, with all his strength, tried to bring Sedgley's number 17 down, saw him score their third and final try of the match followed by a conversion.

Game 2

A swap again of players saw Alex and Iwan on for Issac and Joe. Sedgley's coach was the ref for this game. A Tarleton drop kick started game 2 which fell to Sedgley but was quickly won by Jake who passed to Harry; Harry seemed to shake off which seemed to be all of Sedgley's players to move forward but was evley won eventually brought down with the ball and presented to Sam who quickly passed to Jack. Sedgley won back the ball and their number 7 seemed to break free and score their first try of this match. Unfortunately the conversion was missed as the wind seemed to be getting stronger. Joe kick started the game which saw the ball go low and fall straight to Sedgley however Edward was in the middle of it all and managed to win the ball and pass to Jake who was brought down by Sedgley's number 5. Alex came off and Issac went back on; Tarleton chose a line out which Issac touched with his finger tips and the the ball fell to Sedgley who again managed to break free and score their second try but missed the conversion. A quick change of players saw Marcus back on and Adam come off. Joe took the drop kick and the ball fell to the left of the pitch and straight into Sedgley's hands; a tackle by Jake saw Tarleton win the ball and a quick pass to Jack saw him brought down but present to Issac. Issac was fouled but advantage was given and Sedgley ran to their try line; this proved that Stu and Nik's training really came into play as Tarleton's defence was frustrating Sedgley's forwards (and parents) and it was great to watch the teamwork beween our lads. Sledgley eventually managed to break through and scored their third try and a quick conversion. A quick start again which Sedgley managed to win, saw them run straight down the pitch to score their fourth try but missed the conversion. Half time.

Second half saw Ryan on and Edward off. Jack kicked off the match (after the ref asked for a re-kick) and the ball fell to Sedgley and went out of play. A scrum was formed and Jake picked up the ball and ran forward but a tackle on him, saw the ball go out of play. Tarleton chose a line out which Jack took; Harry batted it and it fell to Issac who saw a gap on the left of him and scored Tarleton's first try of the day. Jack took the conversion quickly but it hit the cross bar (the wind was getting up at this point); a good effort though Jack. Sedgley Park started the game and the ball fell to Paul who ran forward; a tackle by Sedgley and they wonback the ball and scored their fifth try followed by a quick conversion. Quick change of subs saw Declan come off and Alex back on. A Joe kick, started the game and the ball went to the left of the pitch, Tarleton line out thrown by Paul; Issac touch to Jake who passed to Harry; Harry got brought down and another penalty for Tarleton. A drop kick by Joe went up field with Tarleton moving forward again Conal, Jake, Paul and Alex were in the thick of things with Owen and Marcus closely following Sedgley won the ball and broke free on the right; a Sam tackle retreived the ball, throw to Owen then to Harry and pass to Jake saw great time work. Sedgley won the ball but it went out of play; Tarleton penalty quickly taken by Paul but then the ref blew for full time.

A massive well done to the lads today who proved to be stronger, more determined than ever and working really great as a team. We still need to work on those lines though boys but Stu and Nik were extremely pleased, congratulated the squad on their performance and new boys, Declan and Adam had great debut matches. A hard decision made as to who should be man of the match but Jake was chosen by Stu and Nik. Superb game today Jake, well done!!

Squad: Jake (1), Iwan (2), Owen(3), Harry(4), Ryan(5), Edward(7), Sam(8), Declan(11), Issac(12), Marcus(13), Conal(14), Joe(15), Jack (Captain), Adam, Alex and Paul

Waterloo 45 Tarleton 15 (Game 1 - First team)
Waterloo 30* Tarleton 0 (Game 2 - Second team)

A slightly warmer and damp Sunday morning saw Tarleton travel to Crosby to play Waterloo. The coaches decided to have two shorter games rather than one long game as Waterloo had two teams for the under 11's. So it was agreed that two 20 minute games would be played with 5 minutes for half time. There were no rugby sticks for this game, so no conversions were recorded. The lads hadn't played a match since the 18 November due to sickness and cancelled matches because of bad weather and with this being the last match before the Christmas break; Stu and Nik were all fired up for a good match!

Game 1

The team consisted of Issac as hooker, Jake and Owen as props. Marcus and Conal as locks, Joe as the main kicker, Jack as scrum half and Sam, Paul (Captain), Harry, Eddie and Brandon as wingers although Brandon was sub to start with.

Waterloo won the toss and kicked up field which fell by Jack's feet. Whilst the Waterloo forwards got to the ball quickly, Jack managed to break free, fall to the ground and present to Marcus who used his strength to push forward. Marcus fell to the ground and presented the ball to Harry who got tackled by Waterloo. However, he kept hold of the ball with his team mates protecting him. Unfortunately, Waterloo broke free and scored a try. Sam had been helping defend the ball and got himself a bloody nose so was taken off and Brandon went on. A Joe kick up field restarted the game and Tarleton forward's charged ahead. Owen tackled to get the ball and held on that tight that the ref blew for a non-release! A scrum was formed but fell to Waterloo, Paul tackled and broke free and passed the ball to Brandon on the wing but went out of play. A scrum was formed, Joe won the ball and passed to Harry who ran two thirds up field, knocking everyone in his sight! Harry passed to Jack who was free in the middle of the pitch and scored Tarleton's first try. Waterloo scored two more tries before the end of the first half. Joe came off with an injury and Sam went back on to play the last few seconds of the game.

The second half saw Alex come off and Joe back on with a Tarleton kick start. The ball fell to Waterloo who did some superb passing to get up to their try line. However Jack was in the thick of it with Joe, Issac and Owen following closely behind. Some good defending taking place by Tarleton and Joe winning a tackle to pass the ball to Marcus but got stopped by Waterloo. Harry was on their tail however, got the ball and passed to Joe who then passed to Issac up to Tarleton's try line. It looked like Issac scored a try but the ref ruled "no" as he hadn't allegedly touched down. (Tarleton coaches and parents' disagreed!). A scrum was formed close to Tarleton's try line which Jack won and passed to Harry. Harry was tackled by Waterloo who kicked it up field only to be caught by Joe who passed to Issac. A rook was formed and Issac won the ball, passed to Paul who then got tackled by Waterloo and fell to the ground with an injury. Waterloo won the ball and scored another try. Paul came off, Alex on and swapped positions with Brandon who was now the far winger as Waterloo were causing us problems on the far right. This proved a good decision by Stu as Brandon took the drop kick, it fell to Waterloo but Issac was chasing their tails, got the ball and scored a try. Well done Issac! A kick start for Waterloo saw it run short and it fell nicely for Jack who presented to Harry who passed to Issac. However, Waterloo retreived the ball, broke free and ran through the right half of the team to score their next try. Jack came off and Paul went back on as scrum half. A kick start by Joe, caught by Waterloo, however a Jake tackle saw us win the ball which fell out of play. A line out was formed, throw by Issac but Waterloo caught the ball and ran up field to score a try. This was how the game carried on, with Waterloo scoring three more tries to win the game.

Game 2

Waterloo started with fresh legs against our tired Tarleton ones! Waterloo won the toss and kicked up field which fell to Joe who presented to Harry. A bad tackle on Harry, saw a scrum formed which Waterloo won, ran forwards towards their try line. It looked like a try had been scored but the ref ruled not as it hadn't been touched down. A scrum formed which was won again by Waterloo but Sam stopped their forward running down the right hand side of the pitch but Waterloo broke free and scored a try (1). Kick off by Joe which fell straight to Waterloo but a bad tackle against Paul, saw Tarleton win the scrum with Harry taking the ball and presenting it to Issac. Issac passed to Brandon got tackled by Waterloo but Sam tackled them but was deemed off side. A line out was form which Issac took, Sam jumped for the ball but ended up on the ground which saw Eddie retreiving the ball only to be brought down by Waterloo. Waterloo then ran forward again and second their second try (2). Joe kick start saw the ball run short and fall straight into a Waterloo player's arms, Sam tackled and passed the ball to Paul. Marcus came off. (for bad-mouthing the ref! He got a telling off by me I can tell you!) A foul on Paul saw the ref asked for a scrum to be formed. Joe won the ball but got tackled by Waterloo, who saw a gap in our defense and score another try (3). Brandon took the kick start which went straight up field with Owen, Harry, Issac and Eddie pushing forward, however Waterloo again won the ball and ran straight to the other side of the pitch and scored a try (4). Half time was blown.

Brandon kicked started the second half which fell to Waterloo. Brandon won the tackle and found Joe on his right. A maul was formed with Issac, Harry and Owen in the thick of it but Waterloo ended up winning the ball again. Joe seemed to slide down the Waterloo forward to stop him but the ball was off side. A line out was formed and caught by Jack (Thursday nights line out training was paying off!) and then passed to Harry who passed to Alex. Alex got badly tackled and came off, Marcus went back on. A scrum was formed again but Waterloo won the ball, Sam tackled the Waterloo forward and Joe kicked the ball up field only for Waterloo to win the ball and run up field to score a try (5). Joe kicked off again which was picked up by Waterloo only for Jack to tackle and win it but the ref deemed him off side. The scrum was formed, the ball fell to Waterloo but Conal tackled the player who fell to the ground. The ref blew for full time.

Stu and Nik were really pleased with the team and for their hardwork in both games and although there were several outstanding players, Stu and Nik decided that the Man of the Match Award should go to Issac for his strength, hardwork, determine and tries! Well done Issac.

Squad: Brandon (1), Eddie (2), Owen (3), Jack (4)(1 try), Alex (5), Issac (7)(1 try), Paul (Captain)(8), Marcus (11), Sam (12), Joe (13), Harry (14)(1 try), Jake (15) and Conal

18 November 2012
Collegiate 49* Tarleton 19

Tarleton U11's travelled to Liverpool on this sunny and bright Sunday morning to play Collegiate. The sides didn't meet last year due to it being cancelled at the last minute because of the rain (when most parents had near enough arrived!) . The lads had some line and tackling training before the match by Nik and Stu. Subs to start with were Joe and Edward.

Tarleton won the toss and Brandon kicked off the match. Collegiate caught the ball but Tarleton moved up field where Marcus tackled a Collegiate forward, got the ball but was then tackled himself by Collegiate who saw a gap in the middle and ran through to score their first try and conversion. A kick start again from Brandon saw the ball go higher in the air giving Tarleton time to push further into their own half. Collegiate caught the ball but Jack was having none of that, tackled a Collegiate forward and ran to score his first try and conversion of the season!! The lads were buzzing!! Collegiate kicked off which was a high ball but didn't get caught and bobbled out of play. A scrum was formed but Collegiate turned it and the ref asked to reform. The scrum formed again and Harry got the ball who passed to Brandon who was flying through the middle. Brandon got to Tarleton's try line but was stopped by Collegiate's defence who were huge. Owen got stuck in trying to retrieve the ball with Jake and Marcus closely behind. A great pass by Owen to Sam who pushed forward but the ball fell out of play. A line out was formed and a Collegiate throw caught by Jack who ran to Tarleton's try line. Unfortunately however, he dropped the ball rather than place it and whilst Tarleton were contesting with the referee, Collegiate pushed forward and scored their second try quickly followed by a conversion. A Brandon kick off saw the ball go straight out of play. A scrum was formed and won by Sam who got tackled by Collegiate and the ball fell out of play. This is how the game continued. Collegiate's third try came when two of their subs came on who were on fire, following a quick throw in by Collegiate, their sub caught the ball and ran right through Tarleton to scored the try and conversion. The lads heads went down but Nik and parents were shouting from the side lines giving words of encouragement. It worked after, another scrum was formed and won by Paul, Paul ran forward who passed to Jack. Harry was running through the middle and Nik screamed "run for it", Harry basically ran and you should have seen Collegiate's defence literally falling around Harry's feet. Harry scored a great try. Paul quickly followed by a conversion. The lads were buzzing once more and half time was called.

Second half started with Jack and Iwan off and Joe and Edward, making his debut appearance on. Tarleton kicked off the game, this time Joe took it but it fell straight in the arms of a Collegiate forward. A tackle by Issac and then Owen made no difference as Collegiate went onto score their fourth try and converstion. Paul went off and Jack came back on. Collegiate's fifth and sixth try were scored in a similar fashion as where their seventh try. However there was some good lines today and tackling. Tarleton scored their third try by another great tackle by Jack who passed to Ryan. Ryan pushed forward only for the ball to be taken off him. Harry was having none of that and got the ball and passed to Brandon who flew diagonal and then straight for the try line to score Tarleton's third try. Unfortunately the conversion was missed by Brandon. A Collegiate quick kick start shaw the ball fall to Harry who passed to Owen. Owen got tackled badly and the ball fell out of play. A Tarleton throw in saw Collegiate pick up the ball and a hole was left in the middle of the pitch and Collegiate scored their eighth try and conversion. Full time.

Tarleton had a better game today and did show some good play and teamwork. However, again they do let themselves down by contesting what the referee decides and arguing amongst themselves when things aren't working out. Teamwork is vital lads. No doubt Stu and Nik will be working on some more techniques. A good debut match for Edward but it was Jack that won the man of the match voted by parents' today. Well done Jack and what an excellent game. Your new position suits you!!

Man of the Match: Jack

Squad and Scorers: Jack (1) (1 try and conversion), Harry (2) (1 try), Paul (3) (1 conversion), Marcus (4), Owen (5), Jake (6), Joe (8), Sam (11), Brandon (12) (1 try), Edward (13), Iwan (14), Ryan (15), Alex and Issac.

LSH 35 Tarleton 14

A chilly but bright and clear Sunday morning saw the Under 11s take a trip to Liverpool St Helens. Due to our increasing squad, we had two subs today and this was new player, Sam's debut match. Alex and Conal were subs.

LSH won the toss to start the game and a drop kick from the centre line fell straight to Brandon who quickly passed to Jack. Jack was stopped in his tracks by LSH but a George tackle saw the ball presented to Brandon who within five minutes of starting, scored Tarleton's first try of the game with a great conversion by Paul. A drop kick for Tarleton taken by Joe saw our players moving forward quickly, only for George to be taken down by LSH although the ball was well recovered as Harry tackled LSH's number 12! Tarleton had most of the possession by their try line which was passed between Joe, Brandon, Jack, Owen and Marcus. Eventually Owen saw an opening and pushed forward to score his first try of the season followed by a conversion by Paul. A drop kick by LSH was caught by George who then got tackled by LSH but the ball fell out of play. A line out was formed with a great throw by Issac which was caught by Owen who passed to George who got tackled again and fell to the ground holding his head. A ruck was formed and the ball released to LSH who ran threw our defense and scored their first try followed by a conversion. A drop kick by Joe fell straight to LSH but Sam brought down their number 10 and Joe picked up the ball. The first half was very much dominated by Tarleton and when the half time whistle was blown, Tarleton were winning by 7-14.

The second half started with Alex and Conal on and Marcus and George came off. A Tarleton drop kick start by Joe saw the ball fall to LSH who pushed forward upto their try line. However Tarleton's defense held out through good teamwork by Paul, Harry and Ryan but a lot of pressure was put on them and eventually saw LSH equalise and score their second try and conversion. Joe kicked the ball but again it was caught by LSH but got stopped by Sam who passed to George. George was tackled but preented the ball to Ryan who pushed forward only to be blocked by LSH. Conal came off and George went back on only to be brought down by LSH who ran forward with the ball but had a try disallowed due to a foul on Sam who fell to the ground. Sam came off to recover and Marcus came back on. A drop kick by Joe, saw the ball fall to LSH who by this time where organised and tidy. Unfortunately Tarleton seem to fall down here as their didn't hold their line and then some bickering between them, saw them getting disorganised, this lead to LSH scoring their next try and conversion. Unfortunately Tarleton's game didn't get any better and LSH went onto score two more tries and conversions before the ref blew the whistle. A disappointing result for Tarleton considering a positive start.

Man of the Match as voted by parents was Sam. Well done Sam on a fantastic debut match.

Squad and Scorers: Jake (1), Issac (2), Owen (3) (1 try), Ryan (4), Marcus (5), Paul (7) (Captain) (2 conversions), Harry (8), George (9), Conal (11), Brandon (12) (1 try). Sam (13), Jack (14), Joe (15) and Alex

Urgent note from Stu and Nik: Please could you ensure that all players attend every match and training session with a gum shield and head guard. This is for their own protection. Any player that doesn't attend with gum shield and head guard will not be allowed to play/train. Any problems with this, please speak to Stu or Nik direct.

Tarleton 12 Widnes 5 (Game 1)
Tarleton 7 Widnes 0 (Game 2)

An early start this morning as it was the under 11's turn to put out cones, kitchen duties and sweeping out the changing rooms. Pitches were set up by 0915 am in 3 degree temperatures, cold and very misty!! However the weather did improve to a lovely sunny Sunday morning. Ormskirk under 11's don't have a team this season so Widnes decided to join us. It was decided at the outset by both sets of coaches that we would play two games consisting of 10 minutes each way.

Game 1

Paul was chosen as captain for the first match and Nik was the referee.

Tarleton kicked off and the ball fell to Widnes. Paul pushed forward but the ball went out of play. A line out was formed with a Widnes throw in which fell to their number 6 who was huge. However, Owen stopped him running too far up field and the ball went out of play. Line out was formed with a throw in for Tarleton. Issac threw which Widnes caught but with a Jack tackle, he got the ball and ran up field only to be stopped by their number 6! He didn't get too far however as George and Marcus showed some great teamwork, where George literally slid down their number 6, got the ball and passed to Marcus. Marcus passed to Paul who threw a great pass to George. George fell to the ground but presented the ball to Issac who then passed to Marcus who pushed forward (with Widnes lads hanging off his neck) and scored a fantastic try which was followed by a conversion from Brandon. Leigh kicked the game off again which fell to Tarleton but unfortunately got tackled by Widnes, Ryan got the ball back and it was knocked out of play by Widnes. A scrum was formed and George got the ball, drove forward and was stopped by Widnes defence. However a superb presentation by George to Brandon saw Brandon break free down the left hand side of the pitch and scored Tarleton's second try!! The lads were bouncing. A good effort by Brandon on the conversion but it went slightly out. The half time whistle was blown much to the relief of the Widnes players and coaches!

Widnes kicked off the second half which fell to George, a kick pass to Harry with Widnes number 6 breathing down his neck, he passed to George. George ran forward but was stopped by Widnes whose number 11 managed to break free on the left hand side of the pitch closely followed by Alex on his tail but they scored their first try . Unfortunately they missed the conversion. Tarleton kick start saw them defending their lead. Harry, Jack, Jake and George all got involved in a pile up but somehow George came out holding the ball. A good pass by George to Harry saw him move forward only to be stopped by their number 6 again. A good tackle by Jake saw Jack kick the ball up field and out of play. A line out was formed very near the Widnes try area which saw some great defensive play by Tarleton especially Owen and Harry who were determined that their number 6 wasn't going to control the game!! A kick up field by Jack and the ref blew for full time.

Game 2

Another twenty minute game where Conal was captain for the first time. This game was very much like the first.

Widnes started the game with a kick up field, Paul ran forward but Tarleton were off side. A scrum was formed and Widnes won the ball although a tackle by Jack and a pass to Harry, saw Harry making a run for it. Harry was tackled half way up the pitch but Widnes dropped the ball and George somehow amongst all the players came out with it only to be brought down. Widnes attempted to run up field but got tackled by Issac who passed to Alex. Again Tarleton worked hard as a team with Conal, Issac and Ryan in the thick of it all. Eventually after much an even match, Paul passed to Alex and Alex passed to Brandon who saw an opening with Harry free on the left hand side of the pitch. Harry saw his chance and made a run for it supported by Jack, just in case. Harry scored his first try for the club much to the delight of his team mates. Jack took his time and score his first conversion for the Under 11's. Result!!

Man of the Match as voted by parents was Harry. Well done Harry, what a great game!!

Squad and Scorers (both games): Jake (1), Issac (2), Owen (3), Harry (4) (1 try), Marcus (5) (1 try), Brandon (7)(1 try, 1 conversion), Jack (8) (1 conversion), George (9), Paul (11), Ryan (12), Conal (13), Alex (14)

7 October 2012
Leigh 35 Tarleton 19

A cold and foggy morning saw the under 11's travel to Leigh today. We have a full team so had subs as well. This was new players Conal's debut match and Harry who had only one training session with us on Thursday, debut too.

Joe captained the side and kicked off the game. My co-writer for this report was Paul who started out as sub and kept me well informed what I should write!!

The game started quickly with a Joe kick start but Leigh caught it and pushed forward. Tarleton challenged for the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and got stuck into a maul and a drive forward. Tarleton lost the ball and their quick winger ran forward only to be stopped by Ryan briefly. An attempted kick by Leigh saw it blocked by Jack who passed to Issac who managed to break free through the middle but got intercepted. Calls for "handing off" by Tarleton didn't materialise and Leigh broke free to score their first try quickly followed by a conversion. A quick start by Leigh where they ran through the right hand side of the pitch again to score their second try, followed by another great conversion. A kick start by Brandon where Leigh got the ball back straightaway however our defense were fired up where Owen proved what he could do and scared the Leigh forwards who dropped the ball and was then kicked into touch by Joe. A line out was formed where Harry got the ball but unfortunately it fell to Leigh who scored their third try and conversion. A quick talking to by Stu to get the boys fired up saw George kick off, Leigh picked the ball but again Owen and Issac pushed forward and the ball fell to Conal who ended up with most of the Leigh players on top of him but he still kept the ball! A super presentation by Conal to Alex who ran forward but was just out of play. Another lineout where George got the ball, passed to Harry and then passed back to George who kicked it up the pitch. A quick change of players where Paul went on, Ryan came off. Brandon kicked the ball up the pitch but it fell to Leigh's right winger but luckily Jack had it covered and managed to stop him. Another great presentation by Jack to Marcus who pushed forward supported by Owen and Jake but the ball went out of play. Another lineout, caught by Marcus and passed quickly to George who kicked it up field where it fell to Paul. Tarleton were near their try line where great teamwork saw Tarleton keeping the ball which was passed between Joe, Paul, Jack and Iwan. Screams from the parents' for Tarleton to score their first try where heard when Brandon got over the line. The players were delighted. Brandon scored Tarleton's first ever conversion. The half time whistle was then blown!!!

The second half saw Iwan change roles with Paul, Alex went on and Conal came off. A kick off by Paul fell to Leigh where a scrum was formed. Leigh caught the ball and scored their fourth try and conversion. Brandon kicked off, the ball fell to Leigh but a great tackle by Jake saw Jack win the ball and drove forward, passed to Jake then Paul and Tarleton's second try was scored. Brandon took the conversion. Leigh started the game quickly and Joe caught the ball but ended up with half of the Leigh players on top of him. Joe came off with his shoulder injury and Conal came back on. A lineout was formed where Owen caught the ball who pushed forward with Alex and Paul on either side. George won the pass who then passed to Brandon but Leigh intercepted and ran down the left hand side looking for their next try. Luckily Paul tackled and the ref blew. A scrum saw Leigh pick the ball, a tackle by George but unfortunately Leigh scored their fifth try and quick conversion. A quick start saw Tarleton win the ball, Paul pushed forward and the ball fell to Marcus who scored Tarleton's third try. Unfortunately Brandon hit the post in the conversion.

This game was action packed and Stu was really pleased with all the new players and the way the team performed. However, the lads need to remember that in Rugby respect for the referee is very important. Our under 11’s team are still arguing with the referee and giving back chat. Playing rugby isn’t all about having fun it’s also learning discipline and respect for your elders. Stu will again be pointing out the importance of this. The only other criticism is players must get used to holding positions and following the referee and not the oppositions coach or player comments. Far too many times the opposite coach will shout something or a player will shout offside. DO NOT STOP PLAYING unless the referee blows his whistle. If you can pass this on the lads we would be grateful.

Man of the Match as voted by the parents was Marcus.

Squad and Scorers: Jake (1), Issac (2), Owen (3), Harry (4), Marcus (5) (1 try), Brandon (7)(1 try, 2 conversions), Jack (8), George (9), Iwan (11), Ryan (12), Conal (13), Alex (14) and Joe (15) (Captain) and Paul (1 try)

30 September 2012
Sedgley Park 30* Tarleton 0

A damp Sunday morning saw us travelling to Whitefield to play Sedgley Park. This was a debut match for new players, Ryan, Alex, Issac and Iwan and it was great to see Tarleton with a full squad . All the players have been trying to understand the new additions to the game such as a kick to start the game, new scoring and the second row to the scrum.

Joe kicked off which saw Sedgley pick up the ball quickly. Within two minutes their number 15 on the wing, broke through and scored his first try which was quickly followed by a conversion. Sedgley were well organised, disciplined and consistent which did caused Tarleton problems. However there were some great tackles by Brandon who captained the game and Jack who had a few knocks. However, George proved why he won man of the match as he seemed to get everywhere especially after having to be carried off the pitch during the second half !! The game was tough, lots of knocks, tackles, sweat, tears and incidents that we don't need to mention but on the whole coaches Stu and Nik were impressed with the new lads considering this was their first ever game.

Parents voted for the Man of the Match with George taking the majority of the votes and receiving his Man of the Match medal.

Squad: Jake (1), Paul (2), Owen (3), Issac (4), Marcus (5), Iwan (7), Alex (8), George (9), Jack (10), Ryan (12), Brandon (Captain) (13) and Joe (15)

Tarleton 9 Liverpool St Helens 6 (Game 1)
Tarleton 7 Liverpool St Helens 7 (Game 2)

Game 1

This sunday saw the Tarleton U7 face LSH at Carr Lane, conditions were dry and bright making for a solid playing surface.Captaincy was rotated half by half, Thomas captained for the first half of game 1. Kick off was just after 11 with LSH winning the toss for the start. Play commenced at a steady pace as both sides were eager to score. LSH scored the first try of the game from a smooth passing system. Tarleton retaliated with tries from Josh and Toby, working the attack with support from Oliver and Joe. Thomas, Hannah and Mitchell held up the midfield and fended off try attempts from LSH. Play picked up pace into the second half, captained by Toby.

The bulk of the play focussed on each team driving each other out of the side line forcing turn overs each way,Joe and Thomas scored a solid tries from the start, quickly followed by a fast paced score from Hannah. Mitchell made several good runs from the start, returning after an arm injury and supported his team well at the centerfield. Oliver drove home a flying try against several players. The standard and discipline shown by both sides was excellent and most tags were made mid air towards the try line from both ends! Josh was the top scorer for this game, scoring four tries and making some skilled attacks, however the whole team put in a great effort against a formidable LSH side.

Game 2

The first half was captained by Hannah, play commenced after some much needed rehydration owing to the efforts from the first game. The pace of the second half seemed much quicker, with turnovers being established and played at speed. LSH forced several attempts out the side line, Tarleton responded with a well organised defence, it was good to see the children recognising gaps and using their own initiatives, producing some exciting play. Josh scored some fantastic tries in this half, and made some excellent runs as an attack team with Toby, who is always enthusiastic to get stuck in. Joe and Oliver backed up the attackers while Mitchell, Hannah and Thomas took a wider scope of the field, stopping several try attempts from LSH. Tries came from Hannah, Oliver and Josh during the second game.

Mitchell captained the second half, and the whole team put in a robust effort, despite tiredness starting to set in. Thomas made several good try attempts in the later stages but was forced out by LSH players, Joe put in similar efforts being tagged seconds from scoring. Oliver blazed through defenders producing some good runs and Hannah and Josh continued their great work, Hannah using long strides to outrun LSH. Mitchell made some good starts and passes, leading to tries. To summarise, the matches were played with determination, both sides displaying similar methods, play was clean with no injuries and all players gave an excellent performance. On the back of this, man of the match was unawardable as the decision would have been too close, Tarleton U7s instead received medals for their efforts.

Squad: Toby Rich, Josh Jones, Joe Rigby, Hannah Garrish, Thomas Knock, Mitchell Cranmer and Oliver Barker.

13 January 2013
Southport 7 Tarleton 9 (Game 1)
Southport 9 Tarleton 8 (Game 2)

Game 1

A frosty morning saw us facing a well equipped Southport team consisting of two squads, play commenced at 11am, Tarleton won the toss and try was scored off the mark by captain Angus, supported well by Toby and Josh. Southport retaliated with a well orchestrated attack and scored. Play continued in this vain with all players participating and several blazing tries from Angus, Toby and Josh. Thomas scored a solid try off the mark, and excellent play was noted from Joe and Oliver, who got involved in several skirmishes and were occasionally left isolated by a strong southport defence. Jack earned his spurs with some gutsy runs against a wall of players. Play was generally back and forth as both sides came up evenly matched, the team played well, putting in one of the better performances of the season, only a few turnovers were conceeded and the linework was really strong. Tiredness and cold were just setting in before the end of the first half, with some of the team soldiering on against the elements. Angus displayed great leadership by directing his teammates and carrying on despite recieving sme wincing blows, Toby, Josh and Oliver formed a cohesive attack and tries were spread across the team due to the teamwork of the squad.

Game 2

A fresh side were prepared for us on a seperate pitch, after a quick warm and some rehydration Tarleton got to work against a tough defence, comprising several key players. Particularly noted was a pirouhette style of evasion from one of southport's players which left our squad foxed several times and resulted in opposition scoring. Play was of a high standard as usual, Angus kept his lead and play was distibruted well amongst the squad. Joe got really involved in this match and produced some brilliant runs and tries. Thomas and Jack provided some key defence work against some fast and strong players. Toby, Josh and Oliver played across the field as in the first match and all supported or scored tries along with Angus who was always at the center of the fray. The team pulled out all the stops during this tough second game but unfortunately tiredness, cold and endurance coupled with a capable and fast opposition resulted in a defeat in the scond game.

Toby was awarded man of the match for his key role in supporting his teammates and knowing the right moment to surrender the ball to facilitate scoring.

Squad: Angus Garrett (captain) Toby Rich, Thomas Knock, Josh Jones, Jack Kirelly, Joe Rigby, Oliver Barker

4 November 2012
Tarleton 9 LSH 1 (Game 1)
Tarleton 7 LSH 5 (Game 2)

Todays match was held away at LSH, conditions were dry and bright but temperatures starting to drop for the winter, however, the ground was firm and not yet frozen. Game 1 was captained by Thomas Knock and Game 2 by Hannah Garrish, full squad comprised of: Toby Rich, Oliver Barker, Josh Jones, Joe Rigby and Jack Kirrelly.

Game 1
